Dr. Erlanger ‘Earl’ Turner, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist and Professor in Houston, Texas. He is often referred to by his patients as "Dr. Earl". As a psychologists, he also writes a blog The Race to Good Health and occasionally serves as a media expert. Dr. Turner is also the host of The Breakdown with Dr. Earl - a mental health podcast. He was recently elected as the 2020 President of the Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice (APA, Division 37) and is the first African American male to be elected for this position.

Dr. Turner has extensive experience providing therapy services to children and adults with emotional and behavioral problems such as anxiety, depression, and stress management. He also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disruptive behavior disorders in youth such as Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and developmental disorders (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder).
Dr. Turner has published articles in scholarly journals and presented his research at national conferences. His research and clinical interests include access to behavioral health services, cultural competency, behavioral parent training, mental health disparities, and race-related stress.
Dr. Turner is a member of the Association of Black Psychologists and the American Psychological Association (APA). He has over 10-years of leadership experience serving on APA boards and committees. He served as 2017 Chair of the APA Board for the Advancement of Psychology in the Public Interest and in 2014 the National Register of Health Service Psychologists awarded him the Judy E. Hall, Ph.D. Early Career Psychologist Award. Dr. Turner has also been identified as one of the 10 Must Take Psychology Professors in Houston. Currently, Dr. Turner has been appointed to serve on the Behavioral Health National Project Advisory Committee (2016-present) with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - Office of Minority Health.
